LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Laser hair removal is an option that works to permanently reduce hair growth on the skin. We use Candela GentleLase technology. Results vary for each individual. There are pre and post care instructions involved when getting laser hair removal.

Pre care instructions
-
It is important that you shave 24 hours before or the night before your appointment.
-
If you attend your laser appointment and have not shaved, you will be charged $20 for shaving (Please note we WILL NOT shave the brazilian or bikini).
-
You need to ensure you have exfoliated the night before by using a proper body scrub (you can buy a body scrub from us).
-
Remove all makeup before your laser appointment.
-
Do not apply moisturiser, lotion or deodorant on your skin before your appointment.
-
It is crucial that you avoid waxing and tweezing for 6 weeks prior to your appointment.
-
If you have self tanned or spray tanned you need to wait until there is NO MORE tan on your skin before doing laser.
-
You need to avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 4 weeks before having laser treatments.
-
Use sunscreen with SPF 30+ or higher when you are outdoors.
-
Please note that we cannot treat your skin if you have been sunburnt or tanned recently as any colour change to your skin will severely affect the results of your laser treatment. You can get pigment changes to your skin which is darkening/ lightening spots/patches/areas on your skin.
-
If you have bleached your hair, you need to wait for the normal colour to regrow before having a laser hair removal treatment.
-
If you are taking any photosensitive medications e.g. Roaccutane, you cannot do laser until you have seized the medication or at least 8 weeks.
-
If you are on any other medications we urgently recommend that you check with your doctor if you can still get laser hair removal treatments.

Post care instructions
-
After your laser treatment, you will apply aloe vera gel to the area/s to soothe the skin.
-
Apply an ice pack if you feel a heat sensation, have swelling or red marks. These types of side effects will usually subside within a few hours.
-
You must avoid sun exposure for the next 4 weeks and ensure you apply a minimum of SPF30 sunscreen when you head out.
-
For 24 hours, avoid all forms of exercise, steam rooms/saunas, swimming pools and jacuzzis.
-
For 24-48 hours avoid having hot baths and showers, the colder your shower the better.
-
Apply aloe vera gel on the treated area as many times as you need for the next 2-3 days or longer to soothe and relax the skin. Tip: Put your aloe vera gel bottle in the fridge so that the next time you apply it, it will be cooler on the skin.
-
After 48-72 hours, if your skin feels calm and is not irritated, start exfoliating your skin by using a good body scrub, preferably the ones we stock. We also recommend you purchase a good pair of exfoliating gloves and gently scrubbing in a circular motion which will help get rid of dead skin and ingrown hairs.
-
You will notice some of the treated hairs starting to fall off within 1-3 weeks, continue to exfoliate to help with this process.
-
Remember to keep your skin hydrated by using a good moisturiser that is fragrance free.

How does laser hair removal work?A concentrated beam of light is transmited directly into the pigment of the hair follicles. The laser destroys the hair without damaging the surface of the skin. The beam of light is converted to heat and then attracted to the pigment in the hair. This heat is used to burn the hair follicle and prevent hair growth after repetivie treatments.
-
How often should I get laser hair removal? It is reccomended that you get laser hair removal treatments every 4-6 weeks. Hair grows differently all over the face and body.
-
Can I still get laser hair removal if I have tattoos?Laser hair removal strictly cannot be done on top of tattoos. When getting your laser done, we will mark out your skin by gridding it to ensure we AVOID lasering over the tattoos.
-
Does laser hair removal work on white, grey or red hair?"Unfortunately laser hair removal does not work on white and grey hair. Laser is attracted to pigment hence why it does not work on white and grey hair. Red hair is difficult to remove and will require more treatments than the average individual's treatments.
-
How many sessions of laser hair removal will I need? Most clients will require a minimum of 6-10 sessions to see a reduction in hair growth. After that depending on your results and whether it is the face or the body, you will need top up sessions at least 3-5 times a year.
-
What are some of the side effects involved in laser hair removal?Immediate side effects include sensitivity to the skin when touching, erythema (redness) and itchiness. The skin can also feel hot Other side effects can include pigmentation changes, the skin can become darker or lighter (hyper/hypo pigmentation), crusting and blistering, Each client's skin will respond differently.
-
How long does a laser hair removal session take?Laser sessions can take anywhere between 5 minutes to 2 hours. For example, lip laser will only need 5 minutes and a full body session can take up to 2 hours.
-
I have a spray tan on can I still do laser hair removal? No. If you have had a spray tan on you cannot do laser hair removal treatments as this will not work well with the laser hair removal treatments and can end up burning your skin. This also includes direct sunlight exposure. You need to wait for the tan to fade completely before booking in your laser hair removal treatments.
-
Why should I not shower immedeiately after laser hair removal?Your skin is still sensitive after your laser session hence why we do't recommend having a shower right after laser hair removal and waiting 24 hours to do so. However, if you need to shower wait at least 6 hours, wash with cold water and use skin care products that are not harsh on the skin (QV body wash and body moisturiser most recommended). The first 24-48 hours are crucial to keeping your skin cool and soothed with aloe vera gel and cold water only hence why you need to avoid showers straight after your treatment.
-
Do I need to buy any after care products? It is important that you purchase/have a bottle of aloe vera gel, vitamin E cream, hydrating moisturiser with NO perfumes or scented products, exfoliating gloves/exfoliating mit and a good facial/body scrub. You can purchase most of these items from us or your local chemist/supermarket.
-
I had my first laser treatment, why does regrowth look darker and/or thicker?"The hair does not grow back darker and/or thicker. The hairs look darker because the original root of the hair is beginning to come to the top of the skin after being zapped by our laser. You will notice this beggining to change after several sessions.
